Coffee:

Recent studies have found that the caffein in coffee may offer a whole lot of health benefits:

  • It may protect against Parkinson's disease.

  • It may lower the risk of Type 2 diabetes.

  • It may lower the risk of Liver Disease (Cirrhosis), and Liver Cancer.

  • It may lower the risk of Depression.

  • It may improve Cognitive Function, and temporarily lift the mood, improve reaction time, memory, vigilance and general brain function.

  • Caffein can act as a Fat Burner. Due to its stimulant effect on the central nervous system, it raises the metabolism and increases the oxidation of fatty acids.

  • It can improve athletic performance , for example by mobilizing fatty acids from the fat tissues.

  • It offers a decent amount of nutrients like Vitamin B5, B2, B3 and B1, as well as manganese and potassium, and it contains a significant amount of antioxidants.

  • One to two cups of coffee a day are safe to consume for most people, and will most likely not affect your heart health and cholesterol levels in any negative way. Avoid adding too many calories in form of sugar and cream though!

Recipe

(makes 12-15)

  • 100g Oats

  • 100g Dates (Medjool)

  • 50g Blanched Hazelnuts (or Cashews, Almonds, Walnuts…)

  • 2-3 TBSP (Raw) Cocoa Powder

  • 2 TBSP Ground Coffee

  • 1 TBSP Chia Seeds

  • 1 ½ TSPN Vanilla Extract

  • 2 TBSP Date Syrup

  • A pinch of Sea Salt

  • 15-25ml Water

For Coating you use extra Cocoa Powder

  • Process the oats in a food processor until they are very fine, flour-like, then add the cocoa powder and ground coffee.

  • Add all other ingredients except water and process until well combined.

  • Add water to achieve sticky dough like consistency, but be careful that your mass doesn’t become too wet.

  • Roll the sticky dough out into bite size balls and coat them with cocoa.

  • Place them in an airtight container in the fridge to set. They keep up to 5 days refrigerated or can be frozen (up to 3 months).
